Latinx Cultural Aesthetics

Tomás Ybarra-Frausto (2019) labeled rasquache and rasquachismo as customs entrenched in a Chicano state of mind and exercised by “los de abajo,” or those from below. For many, rasquache is a vigorous, imaginative, and underestimated aesthetic that uses alternative resources and procedures to create dynamic and unyielding art in all of its manifestations. Highlighted in this section are individuals who produce art, train artists, and/or advocate for the arts.
