The Genealogical Society of Hispanic America—Utah Chapter

The Genealogical Society of Hispanic America (GSHA) is a national non-profit group that started in Colorado in 1988. The organization’s mission is to encourage “Hispanic genealogical and historical research, education, and to expand awareness and knowledge of Hispanic culture, history, and traditions.” The organization has three chapters regionally located in Pueblo, Colorado, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Burbank, California (GSHA, 2026). Dr. Ed A. Munoz, a co-curator of the Construyendo Latinidad oral history project and digital exhibit, is a member and current president of GSHA—Utah Chapter.  The Utah chapter holds monthly meetings and hosts guest speakers who share their primarily Southwestern Latinx research, genealogy, and/or services. Many of the early narrators featured in the Construyendo Latinidad oral history archive were recruited by Muñoz from the Utah chapter. The organization continues to support the project with additional volunteer narrators, and public and private promotion (Muñoz and Gonzalez, 2026).
