Title

Winter Sediment Coring at Fish Lake, Utah
-
Description
-
This image shows the system that my research team uses to collect sediment cores from the bottom of old and deep lakes. We are using a tripod mounted atop the ice that enables us to drive steel tubes into the sediments that are located ~100 meters below. The sediments contain information about the earth's environment dating back nearly 80,000 years into the past. The Pando aspen clone is located just onshore from where this core was collected. This research activity was supported by an award from the National Science Foundation.
