A large part of the work we do at the Urban Ecology Lab at the NHMU concerns urban trees and the ecosystem services they provide within cities.These leaves are part of an ongoing project that aims to understand how different tree species collect air pollutants and how residents can be included in the decision making process surrounding urban forests. Our research investigates the spatial and temporal differences between similar tree species across three cities (Salt Lake City, UT, Eugene, OR, and Cleveland, OH) and the four seasons. This project is part of a larger effort to help facilitate equitable access to the benefits that trees can provide to urban residents.
