Arndt Volume: Marriott Genealogy
This volume of Johann Arndt's Wahren Christenthum once belonged to Dr. Martin “Marty” Marriott, Second Chancellor of Maranatha Baptist University. It includes a hand-written exploration of the Marriott lineage, which “traces from father to son from Augustine Marriott 1066 A.D.” Additional information about the Marriott family can be found in newspaper clippings adhered to the pages. The clippings are mainly of obituaries obtained during the period of World War II with references to William T. Marriott (d. 1941) and his wife Christina H. Marriott (d. 1949); Herbert “Jiggs” Marriott (d. 1942); Jack Marriott (d. 1945); Billy Kidd Marriott (d. 1945); and Margaret Ruth Marriott-Shea (d. 1961).
Dr. Marriott was named the second chancellor of Maranatha on May 5, 2023. He served as Maranatha’s fifth president from January 2010 until May 2023. Dr. Marriott’s pastoral experience dates to 1979, when a Bible study Dr. Marriott started in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, led to the founding of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He was pastor of that church until 1988, and from 1993-97. He also pastored First Baptist Church of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania (1988-93) and Faith Baptist of Warren, Michigan (1997-2010). He has been a member of Maranatha’s Board of Trustees since 1998 and has also served on the boards of Baptist World Mission, the Independent Fundamental Baptist Association of Michigan, and the Michigan Association of Christian Schools. Dr. Marriott met his wife Miriam (Cummins) while in college. Together they have three grown children: Rebecca (Brock), Rachel (Roberts), and David and twelve grandchildren.
