During the 1920s, the law firm of King and Schudder were retained by the United Mine Workers. Samuel King represented the union in various legal matters in Utah and Wyoming. His most challenging tasks resulted from the 1922 strike of coal mines in Carbon County, Utah. King was called to defend more than twenty strikers accused of murder and to prepare the union's complaint filed before the U.S. Coal Commission in 1923.
