Culture

What would you say the culture is in Utah? Could it be the strong impact that the Mormon church seems to have throughout the state, or the majestic mountain ranges surrounding the Salt Lake City valley (and other areas), or the lingering effects of the 2002 Winter Olympics? There are many factors that contribute to the various cultures here in Utah, but we are talking about winter sports! If you have spent anytime in Utah, you’ve probably noticed the major impacts that winter sports, particularly skiing, have on the lifestyle of many people living in the state. Our goal is to dive deep into the effects that winter sports have in the state of Utah through: the people it attracts, the impacts on film and media, the influence on towns and cities and the changes it has caused economically over time, and finally the relationship between winter sports and the landscapes and natural makeup of Utah. So how do YOU think that winter sports contributes to the overall culture in Utah?

“I love that I can live on the side of a mountain and still have access to amazing culture, whether it’s plays, theater, different people, different walks of life, I never get bored. There’s always something to be doing.”
