Time in Utah
At the age of 44, Col. Allensworth was commissioned as a Chaplain, one of only a few commissioned Black chaplains in the U.S. military at the time. He was stationed at Fort Douglas from 1896 to 1898. During his time at Fort Douglas, Col. Allensworth delivered several speeches and sermons, hosted special events, and initiated a school. Details of his contributions can be seen in the Fort Douglas column of the Salt Lake Tribune.
