Visual Description

A long, square, accordion-bound book. The front cover is a maroon red color and the back is a green-teal to reflect how the Great Salt Lake colors look in aerial and satellite imagery. The front cover has a square inset about three quarters of the way up with a piece of handmade paper glued in. The paper has been printed with representations of molecules of oxygen and water in black ink. The pages of the book are made from a map of the Great Salt Lake at the previous historic low from 1963, the historic high from 1986 and the average level of 4,202 feet. The map was embroidered with the shape of the new historic low, recorded July 5th 2022, 4,190.1 feet. The shape is outlined in red embroidery thread on the North end of the lake, and in green on the South end. Every page in the book is printed in black with one of three images of a set of breathing lungs with the left half showing different levels of the Great Salt Lake. The images follow a breathing sequence, with the lung and the lake diminishing, then filling, then diminishing again.
