While Salt Lake City is known worldwide as the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon or LDS Church for short), there is actually considerable religious diversity in the area. From the arrival of the U.S. Army and subsequent miners and tradesmen, Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish individuals began to live here and soon began to hold religious services.

Some of these historic buildings still stand, though they may have been repurposed. The recent immigration of people from the Middle East and Asia has further enriched the religious landscape of the Salt Lake Valley.
