This 1942 scene is typical of the earlier scene when in 1869 two locomotives faced each other at this identical location at Promontory Summit. The original golden spike was driven at a point between the two locomotives. A replica of the golden spike was pulled at this site September 8, 1942 in the presence of important state and railroad officials and interested spectators.
