Voices from the Field

ORAL HISTORIAN

How did you go about establishing friendly relations with the Navajos?
Do you find them to be pragmatic people?
Did the Navajos accept the ways you showed them in business and in mining?
I've heard they're not aggressive, not competitive, or ambitious.
Do you find this is to be the case?
Do you think the teachers leave these schools because they find their Navajo students
apathetic or lethargic?
Do you think they'll be able to take care of themselves and accept the gospel?
Do many of them go back to their old ways, as in "going back to the blanket”?
Do you think they're depressed by periods of unemployment or do they take it in a carefree spirit?
Do you feel this is a valid complaint?
Overall, wasn’t the revenue from the uranium industry a positive thing?
What prompts them to leave the reservation?
Why are so many drawn back home?
They have such darling babies, don’t you think?
Is there any bitterness here?
And yet, there is nothing to say when I ask, "Would you rather we just ignored you?"
How did they feel about losing their sheep?
Do you think they've been able to adjust themselves to mining’s sudden influx of income?
What do they do with this money?
Have you heard the phrase "Navajo time"?
Do the Navajo have a stronger fear of death then white men?
And yet, there are those who genuinely try to help, aren't there?
Yes, you can edit this. Strike out anything you like.
