We know
there's a very high
suicide rate among young
Indian males. Why?
I'm not sure, except
maybe these young men who leave
and go to school
come home and they're no better off
than they were before they left.
There are no jobs available for them.
One boy told us
he had a degree from a college,
but now all he was doing
was changing diapers.
Here he had an education,
and wanted to provide
for his family, but wasn't able to.
Most of the regular industry
that has been developed on the reservation
is for women.
For the men, there’s just the mines.
